Dungeon Siege (or Dungeon Siege 2 as it was renamed by 3D Realms) is based on the 2.5D game set in the Baldur's Gate series. This is why it is similar to the PlayStation version of Darkstone. The game is set in Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate II. Like Darkstone, Dungeon Siege is a fantasy hack-and-slasher with a complex storyline and rich atmosphere. It is developed by 3D Realms, the creators of the Infinity Engine series of PC games such as Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale, and the series of games Dungeon Siege, Dungeon Siege 2, and Dungeon Siege: Throne of Agony. It was released in 2002 for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox. The game went on to be ported to the PC the following year.
Darkstone was based on the Windows version released in 1998 by Stormfront Studios. On August 31, 2002, Stormfront released Dungeon Siege for the PlayStation 2, a direct port from the PC. It was later released on the PC as well.

It's a hack n slash, dungeon crawling RPG, and there are also some elements of RPG battles. In addition to the standard attacks that you can fire at any time, there are spells and an assortment of different types of weapons that you can use for different situations. Like Diablo, Darkstone has a grid based battle system where each party member has their own health bar and the spells and weapons can be used on them or any of the enemies in the battle. You're also in control of your character's positioning, so there will be situations where you have to get into the enemy's line of sight, or out of their range.
