I MATTER
NEW YORK
I MATTER New York 2020 Image: CASE Art Fund
CASE exhibited portraits of refugee children alongside photographs from our fine art program, BriefCASE. Work from twelve different artists was placed on top of a world map next to the country where each image was taken, accompanied by an explanation of each piece.
I MATTER is an outdoor exhibition that raises awareness about children’s rights, regardless of their circumstances or where they live. I MATTER includes photographs of children holding a hand-written sign stating I MATTER, in whatever language they speak. As more and more children lose the basic right to safety and education, I MATTER reminds us that all children matter, regardless of race, class, or religion.
I MATTER includes photographs taken by two-time Pulitzer prize winner Muhammed Muheisen, of children from refugee camps in Lebanon; Chicagoan Jeffrey Wolin of refugee children living in Chicago; and Norwegian photographer Knut Bry of children living in the camps in Moira, Greece.
I MATTER AT THE ARMORY SHOW NEW YORK, NY, MARCH 2020
The recent numbers of refugees fleeing their homelands has created an enormous humanitarian crisis that has become politicized, as receiving countries close their borders. Caught in the middle of this awful reality are parents who make the unimaginable choice to send their children away, in the hopes of a better life.
Our exhibition, I MATTER, is CASE Art Fund’s response to this crisis. By showing the faces of children, I MATTER seeks to raise awareness about the child refugee crisis and the basic right that all children deserve an education.
